meet the artist

Hello and welcome. My name is Kathryn and I create gold leaf and ink artworks from my studio in Gore, New Zealand. My practice is shaped by the play of contrasts — delicate lines set against luminous gilded detail.

I’m endlessly drawn to the way gold leaf catches the light, glowing differently with each shift in perspective. The slow rhythm of drawing fine ink lines feels meditative, while the gold brings a kind of energy that seems to live within the artwork itself.

You’ll often see recurring motifs in my pieces — winding roads, churches, thistles, hillside landscapes, and architectural silhouettes. My inspiration comes from both home and away: the landscapes of New Zealand where I grew up and live now, and the years I spent exploring Europe.

On my socials you’ll find plenty of sketches — about a third of them evolve into finished works in gold. If you’d like 48 hours of private access to new pieces on my website before they are released to everyone, you are warmly invited to join my mailing list.

Warm regards, Kathryn.
